Voices from the Circle, a one hour radio program, highlights Native news, music, issues, entertainment and storytelling from reservations and urban communities. Co-hosts Jim DeNomie (Bad River Chippewa) and Barbara Jersey (Menominee/Potawatomi) bring you traditional and contemporary Native music, entertainment, storytelling, poetry, powwow trail information, and a calendar of events with an emphasis on the Western Great Lakes, Canada and North East.
Jim DeNomie (Bad River Chippewa)
Jim DeNomie is host/producer of “Voices From the Circle: Native American Radio.” It began as a Sunday night, 30-minute show in Milwaukee on WYMS-FM in 1997 and moved to Sunday mornings, expanding to one hour. It was picked up by American Indian Radio in 1999, and is now part of the Native Voice One family. DeNomie is a recipient of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters’ Silver Reel Award for excellence in broadcasting. He is a producer of Harvard University’s Honoring Nations Program profiles, has received three Nammy Awards and was a keynote speaker at the National Congress of American Indians annual and mid-year conference.
Barbara Jersey (Menominee/Potawatomi)
Barbara Jersey is a senior securities analyst for Thomson Financial Services, a Chicago-based multi-billion dollar, multi-national financial services corporation that tracks the sale of stocks for major corporations and for high-profile clients like Jersey’s Martha Stewart account. Jersey also serves as coordinator of the Menominee Community Center of Chicago, which received a High Award from the Harvard University Honoring Nations Program. She was also honored with a DuSable Award (named for Chicago’s first non-Native settler) for her role in business by the Chicago Historical Society and Friends of DuSable. Co-recipients were Mayor Richard Daley and the late John Johnson, publisher of “Ebony” magazine.
