The bison population in Yellowstone National Park is the oldest in the United States. Bison are unique because of their return from virtual extinction, but tensions rise each year over the management of the bison population in the park. Some groups oppose limiting or slaughtering the population on the Montana side of the park. Other concerns include the spread of brucellosis from bison to cattle.
